We love to visit the Aquarium when they are having a homeschool day (mainly because the prices are cheaper!) We also got to see the Angler Fish right after they were fed. The volunteer put live crickets on the branch above their tank. Watch the fish swim around below and shoot streams of water at […]

Botanic Gardens
Monday was Homeschool Day at the Botanic Gardens, and since their activity was to make bird feeders out of recycled materials, I thought the girls would enjoy going. (Given their fascination with all-things birds these days.) They were all very creative with their designs. After their maker-space time, we spent some time in the indoor […]
Climate Change Class
Adrianna had a class on climate change at NCAR this morning, so Katie and I took our little girls hiking on the trails nearby while we waited for their older sisters to finish.
Warblers
Cate: Mom, is your family’s name ‘Yergler’?Me: Yes, it is.Cate (excited): That’s the same name as a bird! Turns out she had mistaken my former last name for that of “warbler”, of which we saw two today during our field trip to Barr Lake to see their bird banding.
Snow Mountain Ranch
We stayed two nights at the Snow Mountain Ranch – YMCA of the Rockies. Greg and the girls making hiking sticks for our afternoon hike. What you don’t see: for much of the mile hike to the waterfall (near Granby), one of the children was whining and complaining, often stopping to throw her stick to […]
Inventing Room
Today’s field trip to the Inventing Room was super-cool, both in the figurative and the literal sense. Cheetos frozen in liquid nitrogen, along with ice cream and “exploding whipped cream” made with liquid nitrogen. Definitely not your typical dessert shop.
Aquarium Field Trip
Today was Homeschool Day at the Denver Aquarium. Since that means discounted entrance fees + fun classes, we were happy to attend! Since we also had horseback riding later in the day, Bree excitedly told me, “Today I will get to see TWO of my favorite animals – seahorses and horses!”
Seussical the Musical
The girls and I went to see Seussical the Musical at the Arvada Art Center as a homeschool field trip. This was our first time to see the show or hear the music, and we enjoyed it very much. It was fun, colorful, and engaging. The girls especially liked the reference to the Circus Mcgurkus, […]
Denver Mint Tour
We weren’t allowed to take any pictures inside and security was pretty strict. The front door is many inches of iron thick and so heavy! Our tour guide was awesome and kept the puns coming, including telling us that the Denver Mint was the only government agency that makes sense [cents]. LOL It was fun […]
A Christmas Carol
Yesterday we attended A Christmas Carol performance. This was Cate’s first live play/musical and Bree’s second. They both did great, though they were a little wiggly toward the end. We all especially liked the appearance of the ghost of Marley and the “snow” that fell on the audience at the end. Later in the day, […]
