I signed up to be a part of Funky Playground Design‘s Designer Apprentice Program last week. As a part of this “Teacher’s Pet” contest, we all had to design a mini-kit with a theme and with items we consider to be “trendy”. Well, my favorite trend right now is the doodled look to paper and elements, so that is what I tried to go with here.
I am pretty excited about this program. It is a mentoring program and a contest all wrapped up into one. Everyone who doesn’t make it past the first round of the design contest can still participate and receive feedback, tips, and tutorials, which is just what I need! I am up against some very talented designers, many whose names I recognized as popular designers already, so I don’t know how far I will make it. I am glad to be along for the ride though.
This kit is in honor of my daughter’s graduation to a “big-girl bed” last weekend and also being almost potty trained. Thus the bed and potty chair being a part of the kit as well as the kit name. 🙂
This mini-kit contains:
- 4 patterned papers
- 2 solid papers
- 1 folded and stapled ribbon
- 1 folded gingham ribbon
- 2 buttons
- 2 brads
- 2 pieces of ric rac ribbon
- 1 Word Art – “I’m a Big Kid Now”
- 2 pairs of “underwear” embellishments – 1 for a girl, 1 for a boy
- 1 bed embellishment
- 1 potty chair embellishment
I hope you like it. I know it is pretty specialized in theme, but the papers and some of the embellishments are generic, so I think overall it could be a versatile kit.
Wow, I am overwhelmed by the amazing and supportive comments you have all left me on my last post. Thank you so much for the outpouring of love and encouragement and for sharing with me. Not only are your comments all very appreciated and read over and over, but you bring a smile to my face AND inspire me to want to make more freebies for you all. 🙂 Thank you all so very much. I love being a part of the digi-scrapping community. You all are so wonderful!
So after several late nights of experimenting with brushes and skimming the net for tutorials, I have finally finished my fourth kit. Once again, my creativity leaves me when it comes to thinking up a name for it, so…say hello to No Reimer Reason’s Kit #4. LOL. It was inspired by a picture of my daughter and her brown teddy bear, cuddled up under a blue blanket, hence the blues and browns, but since it didn’t actually include any teddies I didn’t feel right incorporating those into the title.
This kit is rather large, so I wasn’t able to include all of the embellishments in the preview. It includes:
- 6 patterned papers
- 4 solid papers
- 2 bows
- 2 brads
- 2 buttons
- 1 corner doodle
- 1 frame
- 2 flowers
- 2 hearts
- 1 hinge with screws
- 1 paperclip
- 2 straight grosgrain ribbons
- 2 folded grosgrain ribbons
- 2 folded/stapled grosgrain ribbons
- 3 stars
Prepare yourselves; this is bound to be long.
First off, I have a new template that I am putting into my store. This is one of my favorites and I think you will like it too, especially since it also includes some “designer” embellishments for your personal use as well. The textured ric rac, the folded ribbons, and the staples are all included and on separate layers for your recoloring convenience. Those embellishment layers can also be dragged and dropped onto your other layouts too, so you will be getting more than just a template.
Please click on the template preview below to be brought to the No Reimer Reason Store listings. (Checkout is securely processed through Paypal; no login needed!) From there you can select your item(s) by clicking the “Add to Cart” buttons.
If it helps, here is a layout using this template:

Okay, now for the REAL reason you all are here…the free digital scrapbooking kit!
This kit was the brainchild of Beth over at Unmommy.com. UnMommy.com is a website for, yes, Moms. But at the same time it isn’t ALL about mom stuff. I found the site from my Google Analytic Stats (someone had put a referral link to one of my previous templates) so I went to check it out last week. It has a small forum population (which I like) compared to some out there since it is so new, and they have a digital scrapbooking section that I have been frequenting the site in recent days.
Anyways, Beth and I are both learning the how to design kits so she asked me to collaborate on one. The colors we chose are based on the available “skins” to the UnMommy.com site.
So, without further adieu, here is my portion of the first, (official?) UnMommy collaboration kit. I will post a link to Beth’s portion once she gets hers uploaded.
- 7 Background Papers
- 3 pieces of Ric Rac
- 3 Folded/Stapled ribbons
- 1 wire butterfly clip
- 1 flower/ribbon embellishment
- 3 brads
- 3 buttons
- 1 floral sticker
- 1 floral border (not shown)
- 1 curly ribbon
Please let me know what you think of this new kit. It was a lot of fun to make! Also, if you decide to checkout UnMommy.com (be warned, it is not censored so they let it all out) be sure to mention that No Reimer Reason sent you on over. 🙂
Update: Beth has her portion of the kit posted on her blog as well. You can download it on her site – December Daydream.
I have finally finished my second digital scrapbooking kit freebie. I hope you like it.
Here is a layout I made using the kit. I will most likely be posting a template of this layout in a few days as well.
This kit was designed for 12×12 pages and all files should be at 300 PPI.
- 6 Background papers
- 2 pieces of Ric-rak
- 2 Brads
- 2 folded/stapled ribbons
- 2 Stars with stitching
- 1 bow
- 2 flowers
If you use this kit, let me know. I love seeing how creative everyone is. 🙂
I have created my first digital scrapbooking mini-kit. Wow, that is a lot of work and time! Since it is my first one, I had to frequent some tutorials and I am sure it will get faster if I continue to play around with photoshop. It was exciting to learn some new techniques, so hopefully my future kits can include more embellishments.
Here is the layout I made with the kit. I will probably make a template out of it eventually too.
This kit was designed at 12×12 PSD. All files should be 300 PPI. I wasn’t able to come up with a fun, unique name like so many designers do. I think I hit the peak of my creativity. 🙂
- 5 Background papers
- 2 pieces of Ric-rak
- 3 buttons
- 6 Flower/eyelets
- 4 Stars (2 with stitching)
