Bree at 35 Months

A lot has been going on with Miss Bree the past few months.

In October, I had her evaluated by our state as I had a concern about a possible speech delay. She did test a bit behind for her age, enough that she even qualified for free speech therapy until she turns three. So starting mid-October, Miss Jenny, a speech therapist, started working with Bree.

I really like this program. Miss Jenny comes to our house once a week to work with Bree. The therapy is all play-based. Jenny brings puzzles and games to play with Bree and has been concentrating on directed-play with her. Bree is very independent and can play alone for a long time on her own, so this is a new thing for her. She doesn’t like to follow directions at all. But over the weeks, I have seen quite a bit of progress with her willingness to follow directions as a result. Yay! She is also getting better at answering questions (with words) that we ask her , which is another milestone we were hoping for.

Bree also qualified for an IEP and free preschool services at a nearby preschool, starting in January since she’s almost three. I have to say that I have agonized over the decision of whether I should send her or not. After a couple of weeks of mulling it over, talking with friends about it and praying with some wonderful girls in my Pneuma homeschool group, I have decided I am going to turn it down. There are several reasons for this.

  1. It’ll be one more thing in our already busy schedule.
  2. We’ll have a newborn! Adding to our already busy schedule.
  3. Bree’s speech and development has exploded over the past couple months, along with her ability to now do many of the things she was tested for (and didn’t do) just two months ago.

Bree is now regularly using sentences, learning several new words every single day and repeating much of what we say. There is no way that I can list all of the words she is saying now, but I do have to list some of my favorite pronunciations.

  • um-cumb (unicorn)
  • poh-mee (pony)
  • hoh-hee (horsie)
  • pee-no (piano)
  • Bee (Bree)
  • Oh, guh-ness (Oh, goodness!)
  • Dat’s funny!
  • mee-yo (more)
  • Rie inna new cow (Ride in the new car – even though the “new” car is definitely not new anymore)
  • Na-na (Adrianna)
  • Neh-nee (Nette, our neighbor)
  • Maw-wee (Molly)
  • sun-glagla (sunglasses)
  • puh-tayo (potato)
  • noo-noe (noodles)
  • Hi Bee. I’m boo Eeyah. (Hi Bree, I’m blue Eeyah.)
  • outs (out)

She also often ends sentences or requests with the word, “Mommy”. Greg says she does it even when I am not around.

I’ll have to add more words to the list as I think of them, because I know I am missing a lot.

I am so proud of my little Breezy girl!
