I had my follow-up endocrinologist appointment this morning. I have been really nervous for this appointment as the doctor was going to take a look at all my glucose counts from my blood tests (four per day) and determine if I would also need insulin shots on top of the diabetes diet that I have been following. Greg came with me, just in case, since he had offered to help me with the shots if it came to that. But I am extremely happy to report that she thought my overall counts were good enough to where I can continue to control the diabetes with the diet alone. Even though a couple readings were higher than the target range (which is part of the reason I was worried), she told me that it is the overall range that she is looking for and that I was doing fine. So happy!!
She did warn me that the pregnancy hormones will be continuing to possibly make the diabetes harder to control until 35-37 weeks (I am currently at 30 weeks), so there may come a time in the next few weeks where I might need insulin if the diet alone can no longer control the diabetes. I have to send her my glucose readings every week and will return for a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks. I was also told to not worry about an occasional high number or slip-up, especially with the holidays coming up. I am so glad to know that I can at least have a sliver of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. 🙂
yay Amber that is great news! 🙂 i will still aim for the better pies to make so maybe a little bigger sliver just avoid the crust! 🙂
I am so glad that you don’t have to have the shots! It really isn’t fun giving yourself shots everday!Glad you can have a little pie too!
