Bree-isms

Bree is a clever and logical kid. She continues to amaze me with the things she observes and says.

One morning recently, Bree was in our bedroom. (She often runs in the moment she knows I am awake, usually right after she hears me flush the toilet.) Greg asked her to leave the bedroom for a minute so he could have privacy to change his clothes. Not missing a beat, Bree told him, “You can go in the bathroom and close the door.”

It’s hard to beat her logic.

We recently moved some of her ABA therapy sessions to in-home sessions, for which I am very thankful. Today, Bree was keeping her therapists and I in stitches as we tried to hold back laughter with some of her funny statements. When she was made to eat a carrot, she protested saying that carrots were made for bunnies and horses. She did eventually eat the entire carrot though. She also ate a ham and cheese sandwich today, which completely amazed us all. And she liked it.

Later, when playing with the Imaginets (magnetic shapes), Bree stated that she was going to make a car. However, she doesn’t pronounce her “r” correctly, so “car” sounds like “cow.” Her therapist used that moment to work with her on the correct pronunciation.

Bree: “I am building a cow.”
Therapist: “/K/ /ah/ /rrrr/. I am building a car.”
Bree: “I am building a cow.”
Therapist: “/K/ /ah/ /rrrr/. R says /rrrr/.”
Bree: “C-OW!”
Therapist: (Very patiently, with careful enunciation) “/K/ /ah/ /rrrr/.”
Bree: “I am building a truck.”

If only I could remember all the other funny and/or logical things she said today. She had her therapists and I holding back laughter many times with the hilarious things she was coming up with. It was a great, happy day.
