April 21
Wow, has it really been almost a month since our trip?
We started our sixth day of our trip by visiting Disney’s California Adventure Park. The day started out a bit drizzly, which was actually nice since that keeps the crowds down (a little).
We rode a few of the rides. Greg and Adrianna even went on the very tall ferris wheel with the swinging cars! Adrianna was a little nervous at first but seemed to like it overall. One of the ladies that was in their car started to feel nauseous and even was screaming at the attendant to let her off when their car was back at the lower part again, but the ride didn’t stop. Greg moved Adrianna to the other side of the car from the lady as a precaution. Thankfully, she didn’t end up getting sick, but that whole episode did put a bit of a damper on the ride for them.
Greasy-Faced Baby
Bree and I were recovering from sunburns, so we coated Bree’s face quite heavily with sunscreen.
Monsters Inc
A Bug’s Life
Adrianna’s favorite part of California Adventure was probably the little water section of A Bug’s Life. Even though it was a little on the cool side, she was quite happy to shed off her shoes and socks and get her dress soaking wet.
Both girls were pretty tired so we decided to head back to our hotel room for a break in the afternoon. We knew we’d made the right decision when Adrianna had a bit of an overtired meltdown on our way out of the park. It was nice having a hotel within walking distance.
Much of California Adventure was under construction, which was disappointing. A lot of it was under construction when we were there two years ago too. We had purchased the park hopper tickets, so after a break in our hotel room we headed back to the Disneyland park for the remainder of the day.
The Mad Hatter
One of our first orders of business upon our return was to get me a hat. I don’t normally wear hats but the sunburn along my hairline was getting painful so I gave in and bought one from The Mad Hatter. Word to the wise: don’t part your hair in the same place two days in a row when spending a lot of time outside.
Goofy’s House in Toon Town
We stayed around for the fireworks. Bree and I staked out a bench with a good view while Greg and Adrianna went on another ride. While waiting for them to return, another couple, from Mexico, sat down on the bench with me. The wife and two daughters couldn’t speak English but the husband is an engineer and travels to the U.S. often for business so he spoke English well and he and I had an interesting conversation. When Greg and Adrianna returned, Adrianna instantly made friends with their daughters, in spite of the language barrier. When Adrianna found out they spoke only Spanish, she proudly counted in Spanish for them. And then the other 6 year old counted in English for Adrianna. It was so cute. 🙂
While we had fun at Disneyland, it is definitely a lot tougher to get the magical experience with a toddler in tow, especially since it is very difficult to get them their required nap. But, I still LOVE Disney and I hope we can return sometime in the future when Bree is a little older.
