Symphony

We had our first homeschooling field trip this week: a visit to the symphony. It was a special youth concert, so many other school children were there from public schools, charter schools, and private schools, as well as other homeschoolers.

This was Adrianna’s first time to see a symphony perform. She excitedly pointed out all the instruments she recognized (violins, french horns, trombone, trumpets, drums) and was pretty well behaved, albeit a bit antsy. Most of the crowd, since it consisted primarily of young children, was in the same fidgety boat.

The performance they put on was called Música Latina: A Symphonic Celebration of the Americas. The songs performed were:

  1. GINASTERA “Los trabajadores agricolas” from Estancia
  2. REVUELTAS Sensemayá
  3. VILLA-LOBOS Aria from Bachianas Brazileires No. 5
  4. MARQUEZ Danzon No. 2
  5. MONCAYO Huapango
  6. GINASTERA “Malambo” from Estancia

The description from denver.org states,

“Come “See the Music” in this symphonic celebration of music from Central and South America. Featuring characteristic Latin rhythms and lush melodies, Música Latina is guaranteed to thrill. From Mexico’s Silvestre Revueltas comes Sensemayá; about an eerie and ominous snake, to the lush romanticism of Brazilian composer Villa Lobos’ Bachianas Brazileires No. 5, the sights and sounds of the southern hemisphere come to life in this colorful one hour program.”

We had an enjoyable time and it was a fun mother/daughter date. Adrianna has already asked when we can go see a symphony perform again.

  1. Introducing your little gal to the arts! Who knows what she will do musically! Great pic too! This must be the time of year to go. Several of my students were making trips to the Wichita Symphony this past week.
