A few weeks back, we visited PF Changs for dinner. Below is an approximation of an actual conversation that took place as we were being seated.
Host: Right this way, folks.
Adrianna (to me): Mommy, he called us FOLKS!
Me: That’s okay. That is just another way to address a group of people.
Adrianna: Folks are people?
Me: Yes, that’s right.
Adrianna: I’m not a folk. I’m a little girl.
I am not sure what brought this back to her mind, but Adrianna asked me about it again today.
Adrianna: Mommy, folks are people, right?
Me: That’s right.
Adrianna: And people are humans, right?
Me: Yes, that is correct.
Adrianna: The guy at PF Changs called us folks, right?
Me: Yes, he did…you have a good memory!
Adrianna: Mommy, but I am not a folk. I am a little girl, right?
She appends “right?” to the end of many sentences these days. (Another thing she often appends to sentences is, “Did you know that?”.)
She makes me laugh every day. I just wish I could remember all the funny things she says these days. I am glad she brought this conversation back up as I meant to write it down when it originally happened. Her insistance that she was NOT A FOLK was amazingly cute.
Ethan says that all the time. Not about folk but if I say ‘let’s go mister’, he’ll say I’m not Mr. I’m Ethan. He just realized that his middle name is Javier (like his dad) and now he’ll say, you can call me Javiday. That’s how he pronounces it and it cracks me up. I’ll say, Javiday, does that come after Friday or Saturday. And he just looks at me like he has no idea what Im talking about. And if he’s wearing one of his costumes, he’ll say, you can call me Batman. So the conversation will go like this. Me: Ethan, time to eat. Ethan: you can call me Batman. They are just so funny at this age.
About the elections, I’m always so surprised when people aren’t sure who to vote for. I felt like the candidates were so different it was easy to know who you sided with. I personally voted for Obama for many reasons but I think especially because VP Palin seems like such a terrible VP and quite possibly President, that I would just be so disappointed if they won. But whoever you decide on, at least you voted. I think that’s so important.
