Lost Tooth

Yesterday evening, Bree (age 4) fell and knocked one of her top front teeth out. Greg was flying a remote-control flying object and Adrianna and Bree were excitedly chasing it. Bree slipped on the hardwood floor, started crying, and then we saw a tooth on the floor! She wouldn’t let us look into her mouth all evening to see the damage. Even though it is a baby tooth, it was pretty traumatic for all of us, and neither Greg or I got a lot of sleep last night.

We went and saw the dentist today and the good news is that her other teeth are okay and it was the “one of the cleanest breaks” she’s seen. No stitches needed, the entire tooth and root fell out, etc. *sigh*

I am absolutely amazed that Bree cooperated and let the dentist look in her mouth; that is a huge thing for our sensory kiddo! She did refuse the x-ray though. (She said it smelled funny.) Not even ice cream could entice her!I was concerned that this would be a setback for Bree regarding speech and eating since she was refusing to open her mouth, speak, or eat. But I am happy to say that now (finally), almost 24 hours later, I can hear her upstairs happily playing and conversing with her My Little Ponies. And she requested some “chocolate toast” (toast with Nutella) to eat. I am so relieved. But still sad that her tooth is gone until the permanent tooth shows itself in about 4 years.
