June 2020

I found these pools for free, which was awesome since I’ve been unable to purchase a small, plastic pool online for delivery or pickup, and I’ve been avoiding going into stores as much as possible. The girls are happy to have a way to play with water and cool off.

We were excited to discover that we have two different kinds of goldfinches visiting our yard. (I didn’t even Colorado had two different kinds!) We have the typical American Goldfinch, which is the ones I was familiar with already. And we also have a pair of Lesser Goldfinches.

We had a virtual game night with a few couples from church with Jackbox Games.

Took a car full of groceries and toiletries to Ruby’s Pantry, a non-profit that is serving refugees hard-hit by COVID-19 job losses. All donations from some generous people at our church! Love my church.

Only a certain amount of people can enter a store at a time. Greg had to pick up some things at Home Depot (one of the few trips we’ve made into a store) so I had him snap a picture for posterity.

Saying goodbye to the Andersons

We are so sad that our friends are moving away! I will miss Kelly and I know Adrianna will miss their son and her friend, Henry. At least the kids can keep in touch online via Minecraft and Discord.

Baby house finches on our back porch.

My girls often raid the recycling bin for their crafts! This is Bree’s latest bird, made with recycled materials.

Adrianna begged me to cut her hair. I didn’t do the best job, but at least it is (mostly) straight on the bottom, I guess. Cut off a few inches!

Found this paper of math that Bree did on her own. Afterward, I introduced her to Fibonacci numbers, since I thought she would enjoy that. She especially enjoyed seeing those patterns in nature, like in flowers or snail shells. She loves snail shells, so of course that was a win. (Thanks YouTube videos!)

While we often take walks as a family to get out of the house, sometimes it is nice when just Greg and I do. One of the few times we get alone time these days since we can’t do date nights at the theater or restaurants like we used to.

Puzzles are one of the things that were hard to find in the early months of COVID-19 social distancing. Luckily, we enjoy puzzles so we had plenty on hand already.

The little girls enjoy having vanilla yogurt, strawberries, and granola for breakast. (Cate always adds blueberries.)

More Settlers of Catan

Bree had a playdate with her friend, Liandri. When her mom messaged me about a playdate, at first I was unsure if we should do it. But it was important for me to have Bree see her friend, so I conferred with Greg and we decided we would be comfortable with it if we stayed outside and if Bree and I wore masks. Henriette said that would be totally cool. They live in the mountains and had plenty to do outside. And even though I didn’t ask, both Henriette and Liandri also wore masks while we were there. Bree did “forget” to put her mask on and needed reminding quite a bit. This whole mask thing is still new to us all and takes some getting used to. But being outside and knowing that both of our families’ children really haven’t been out and about too much helped, too. I am glad we went. I enjoyed chatting with Henriette while the girls played. We even got to take a short hike to their “beautiful place” with a great view!

And here’s our June in one second every day.
