A Last Gathering

Greg and I have come to the difficult decision to start practicing “social distancing” as a family. We have been watching the news of the coronavirus/COVID-19 and have had many discussions on preparing as a family and when we plan to withdraw from our normal activities. He has been working from home since Monday, March 2nd, as taking public transportation was already starting to make him nervous and I think his company had begun to request it of their employees by the 5th or 6th anyway. (His company is based out of Seattle, which has been experiencing outbreaks before much of the rest of the country.) So today, we decided that today (Wednesday, March 11) would be our last day out and about.

It happened that I already had a get-together already planned for this evening at Becky’s house, and it was the perfect way to spend my last night out with friends. Becky, Heather, and I spent hours together chatting about our lives, homeschooling, and about the new reality that we find ourselves in. It is so weird to think that it may be my last in-person contact with friends in I don’t know how long.

Tomorrow, the girls will stay home from our beloved homeschool co-op. I think this decision was the hardest of all for me. The classes they take there and their friends are of such great value to us.

We’ve already asked if Adrianna can do her violin lessons remotely on Friday, so that is taken care of as well. She will have one final orthodontist appointment on Friday and then ???
