The American Astronomical Society was in town for a convention and they invited local homeschoolers to come for an educational morning. Knowing Adrianna’s love of astronomy, I jumped at the chance!
Since the event was at the Denver Sheraton hotel in downtown Denver, we decided to take the bus. The Flatiron Flyer is so convenient when attending events near that area!
The morning started with a Welcome Talk by Vanderbilt University’s Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Dr. Keivan Guadalupe Stassun, which was really interesting. Then the students got to visit the exhibit hall in groups of 10-15. There, we met with several exhibitors for hands-on activities covering topics such as discovering exoplanets, building an interferometer, dark matter, infrared cameras, light spectrum, deploying the James Webb Space Telescope and much more! It was a very educational and exciting day.
Equally exciting for Adrianna (my little entrepreneur) was the vendor booth, which had astronomy-themed items for purchase. The women running it were so engaging and sweet and encouraged Adrianna in her own business. (She and her friend, Thomas, have a business where they make and sell coasters, magnets, and custom decals.)
