Now that I have two kiddos in diapers, it sure would be nice (and cost effective) if Bree would decide she is ready to try using the potty. So far though, she refuses.
Every morning, the first thing I do after getting Bree out of her crib* is change her diaper. It is amazing how much bigger she seems now that I also have been changing a newborn’s tiny diapers! And every morning, I ask Bree if she’d like to try to use the potty like a big girl. I’ve told her that Adrianna and Mommy both use the potty “like a big girl”. I’ve promised candy treats and fun panties as rewards. I remind her that we have a fun Elmo seat for the potty. But so far, Bree’s answer is always a strong “No.”
Bree is in the habit of talking about her observations and repeating phrases back to me often throughout the day. One of her new ones, now spoken every morning during her diaper change, is to repeat “Nana’s a big geel.” I’ll affirm to her, “Yes, Adrianna is a big girl.” She’ll observe, “Mommy’s a big geel.” “Yes, Mommy is a big girl.”
Today, she added a new person to the list. “Daddy’s a big geel!”
I had to chuckle at that one before answering, “No, Daddy’s a big BOY.”

*Yes, Bree is still in a crib at three years old. She’s never tried to climb out and we don’t need it for Cate quite yet since Cate is still sleeping in our room. I also like that the crib keeps Bree contained in a “safe” spot in the mornings, allowing me to get a little extra sleep since she wakes up sooner than I do and is usually content to quietly play in there until I get her out. 🙂
I was in a crib at 3 still. I remember being upset when Mom made me vacate the crib so Cindy could have it. I loved that crib! 🙂
It’s amazing to me that you can remember being 3 Karen! Can you remember being 3 Amber? I guess its possible though cause I remember my mom telling me the story of how she remembered how HER mom had gotten her to stop drinking from baby bottles and how she cried. They only had glass bottles back then and her mom would break one by one over time(my mom found out when she was older that they were broken on purpose) but at the time she thought it was an accident. And when the last bottle was broken my mom was so sad and cried and cried. (she didn’t realize of course that her mom could of just gone to the store for another bottle…..this is just how my mom told me the story. This would seem that sad things that are a big deal to a child get remembered. I am sorry Karen:( knowing how sad it made you I would do it differently if I had the chance!
