I just love, love, love being a stay at home mom. I thought I would be missing my job terribly or that I’d be bored by this time. I’ve only missed my old job once, and that was for a brief afternoon a week or two ago. Other than that, I have been keeping too busy to miss it or even think about it too much. Certainly, there are times when it would be nice to have an excuse to get out of the house by myself on a regular basis, but Greg has been so great about letting me get away without the kids often enough that I’ve felt pretty good about this stay at home mom thing. But how is it that I am home more but my house isn’t that much cleaner than it was before? 🙂
Today was just one more reason why I love being home with Adrianna and Bree. Adrianna’s school had a field day and Bree and I were able to attend for a couple of hours this morning. It struck me as we were there that it was nice being able to visit so many of Adrianna’s school functions without having to take a vacation day from work or worry about having to rush anywhere afterward. I can just be in the moment.
It was a beautiful morning; you couldn’t ask for a better day for an outdoor activity. I got to watch Adrianna and her classmates do a sack race, a 50 yard dash (ran both forward and backward), a long jump, a “frog” jump, a frisbee toss, a football toss and a baseball toss, among other things. Fun, fun, fun.

Adrianna looks so much like Greg and I can see a lot of his personality in her too. She’s the kid who is often in her own little world: humming happily to herself, not always paying full attention. It isn’t done in a naughty “let’s see what I can get away with” fashion. It is more that she sees so many fascinating things around her that must be looked at so while she is present, she isn’t always 100% present. For example, the kids would be lined up waiting their turn for the next event and Adrianna would be in line but she would end up squatting down to play in the dirt or to pick the grass. Often the line would move ahead of her and around her and she didn’t seem to notice or care that she was going to miss her turn. I can only imagine Greg was the same way based on some of the stories he has told me of his childhood baseball career in the outfield where he was more interested in catching flying June bugs in his mitt than he was fly balls.
One nice thing about this age is that the kids weren’t competitive about the games at all. It was quite refreshing. They all participated and nobody was left out. I enjoyed watching her Field Day very much.
Breezy taking a quick nap
This brings a smile–hearing about Adrianna’s distractions and being perfectly happy with her own little world. It does sound familiar. Wish I could have watched too. 🙂
She has plenty of time to learn how to be with it and competitive. And Breezy is rolling with the punches and taking her nap……..how cute! Love her outfit!
Is Adrianna really that much taller than other kids her age? She just looks so tall in all the photos! I’m glad you had such a great time. I would love to be a stay at home mom too but we won’t be able to swing it this time around. Bree looks quite comfy in her carseat (and I love that girly outfit too)!
