Bree at 5 Months

Has it really already been 5 months since Bree was born? It feels like only the quick blink of an eye.

Our little Breezy girl continues to grow stronger every day. She rolls wherever she wants to go, never staying in the place I put her on the floor. She absolutely loves her big sister and watches her every move.

Bree is starting to take an interest in toys, although her favorite things to grab and put in her mouth are her socks and her feet. She also is often chewing on her fingers these days. A result of teething, I think.

One thing Bree is not good at is sleeping. I have a hard time getting her to take regular naps. She does fall asleep in her car seat on occasion and she likes to nap in bed with me in the mornings. Even if I am lucky enough to get her to sleep without me having to stay and lay in bed with her, the nap doesn’t last very long.

Sleeping at night is also still not going as well as I’d like. While she will sleep a solid 4-5 hours for the initial stretch (until 12-1 a.m.), she often wakes up quite often in the wee hours of the morning. I know part of the problem is me too though. When she does wake up, I am so tired that I don’t have the patience to hang out and comfort her as long as it would take for her to fall back to sleep, so I resort to bringing her back to bed with me where I nurse her and we both fall asleep together. Bad, bad habit for both of us. I don’t know how she manages to be such a cheerful, easy Breezy girl during the day with so little sleep.

In spite of the sleeplessness, I absolutely love having a baby in the house. I love holding her close, listening to her squeal in excitement as she discovers that she can make a new noise and brushing my lips across her soft, fuzzy little head. And who can resist these adorable smiles, even in the middle of the night when her Momma is bleary-eyed with sleep (or rather the LACK of sleep)?
