On Saturday, May 16th, Greg, myself, Shad, and Lynette got to see Flight of the Conchords at Red Rocks. We had great seats. FOTC had sent out a password to their Facebook fans to buy tickets before they went on sale to the general public, so that is what I did. The minute the pre-sale opened, I hopped online and purchased our four tickets. As a result, we were only in row 27! Considering that the first 25 rows were general admission and not assigned seating, that was pretty awesome. We could show up whenever we wanted and were guaranteed decent seats. Especially important considering we had to hire a babysitter for the evening and wouldn’t have been able to camp out all day just to get good seats.
We did have to park quite a ways away since there isn’t a lot of actual parking there. After the long uphill walk, I sure was huffing and puffing by the time we arrived to the stadium. The last time we were at Red Rocks with Shad and Lynette (to go hiking), I was about the same amount of weeks pregnant with Adrianna. I remember breathing heavy as we hiked uphill then too, and joking about it with Greg that I was “carrying two.” His response was that one of the two is only the size of a bean so it didn’t really count. But oh, how it does!
This was my first concert at Red Rocks, and I sure wasn’t disappointed. It was a beautiful night and beautiful venue and only a bit chilly once the sun went down. And I loved how clear the sound mix was. Iron & Wine opened, followed by comedian Arj Barker (he plays Dave on FOTC’s HBO series). Flight of the Conchords didn’t do all of my favorite songs, but they did do a good portion of them, including Hurt Feelings, The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room), The Humans are Dead, Jenny, Not Crying, Hiphopopotamus Vs. Rhymenoceros and Business Time.
We borrowed a pair of binoculars from my parents for the show. Even though we had good seats, we wanted to be able to see Brett and Jemaine’s facial expressions since they are so hilarious. My only regret is that I didn’t bring a camera (based on the Red Rocks website suggestion). I so wish I had. I guess I will have to content myself with the pictures and youtube videos from other people.
