Our California Adventure – Day 1

We left for DIA early on Tuesday morning.  Our flight was only delayed about 10 minutes, so we were up in the air before 11. Adrianna was thrilled that we got to ride a shuttle bus, a train, and an airplane. She picked the window seat and we all enjoyed looking at the mountains as we flew over the Rockies.

When we started ascending through the clouds, Adrianna began looking for Care Bears. (They live on the clouds, you know.) After awhile, she started calling out the names of different Care Bears that she “saw” out the window and even holding conversations with them. She also informed me that Teddy Bear was riding on the plane’s wing.

The highlight of our flight was flying over the Grand Canyon. Amazing and so huge! Someday, I hope to see it from the ground too.

Adrianna did really well on the flight, for the most part, although she did experience some boredom towards the end where we had to settle her down.

Once we landed and picked up our baggage and our rental car, we were on our way. The first thing we did was go to In-N-Out Burger for lunch. Then, we headed straight to the hotel in Anaheim where we took a LONG nap because we were all exhausted. When we awoke, it was already 7:00 in the evening. So much for keeping Adrianna on a good sleeping schedule.

We decided to head to a grocery store to pick up some food items for our room’s refridgerator and for dinner. We went to the nearest decent sized store, and ended up being the only white people there. Everything, including the music, was in Spanish. Even coming from a neighborhood with a large Hispanic population, it was an experience and I enjoyed it. I so wish I could remember more Spanish from highschool! The signs were in English too, so that wasn’t an issue at all, but it was still very obvious who their normal clientele was.

After we returned, we heard the fireworks from Disneyland and were thrilled that we could see them from our hotel room. They put on a pretty good show, and Adrianna was glad we could watch the “fireworkers” inside so that they weren’t as loud.

Well, that is about it for Day 1: Flight, In-N-Out Burger, sleep, Spanish, fireworks, more sleep.

  1. Sounds like fun so far! Adrianna seeing all the carebears reminds me of Cindy when she would always see “Pillow kay” everywhere! So cute! Wish I could’ve come along! Darn work…:) Hope the rest of your trip goes well and is fun!
