Third Time’s the Charm?

I blogged a couple weeks ago about how Staples is trying to do a “hostile takeover” (aka unsolicited buyout) of my employer, Corporate Express. According to a news release by Forbes yesterday (Corporate Express gets Stapled – Clever!), they have made a third bid. Analysts are saying that it is a good offer. It is contingent on Corporate Express not going through with the planned merger with Lyreco, which has yet to be approved by our shareholders.

Not long after the previous bids by Staples had made the news, a lot of emails from the CEO and other head honchos at Corporate Express were sent out the same day or early the next day to reassure all of us employees that the bid was rejected and why. Not so this time, at least not yet. Not only that, but our weekly management meeting scheduled for tomorrow had a reminder sent out today in bold, red, underlined letters that stated, “IMPORTANT HUDDLE INFORMATION” and then later, “Critical information being addressed in the meeting tomorrow so please make every effort to attend.” Hmmm…

I guess I will know more tomorrow morning.
