Our 4th of July Week

We spent a good portion of this last week in Kansas with Greg’s family. It was a very busy and fun-filled time. Saturday night we all met at Prairie Rose for a Chuckwagon Supper, which is a delicious all-you-can-eat meal followed by entertainment from the Prairie Rose Wranglers, who perform classic country tunes intermingled with corny but funny jokes.

Saturday was his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary and so the kids hosted a nice party for them on Sunday evening. To everyone’s surprise, one of Dave and Marilyn’s nephews, Jerry, and two of his daughters (who live several hours away) came. We were so excited to see them. Then a little while later, the family of their other nephew, Shawn, came too. They live in Virginia, so it was even more of a surprise! Every gathering with the Veers is an enjoyable one. Adrianna fell in love with one of Jerry’s daughters, Allie. She kept saying she wanted to play with “owwie.”

This is the first time the entire Reimer family has been together since June 2006. As such, we made sure to take a family picture.

It took us a few attempts to get a good one. Here is one of Adrianna where she was being uncooperative, but it still ended up being a cute shot.

We also enjoyed our time with baby Charlie. Adrianna is such a good helper, always bringing him his bottle or blanket or even sometimes sharing her bears with him. She really enjoys playing with him and he seems to enjoy it too and babbles happy baby noises.
Adrianna and Charlie

Here is a video of Adrianna playing with Charlie. One of my favorite parts is when she tells him sternly to “Go to Seep.”

Adrianna did have one moment of jealousy though. I was sitting on the couch with our dog, Molly, and someone was sitting next to me holding Charlie. Charlie was interested in the dog and, with help, was petting her. Adrianna gave him a look and then came over and made Molly get down. She was jealous over his petting Molly.

We headed back to Denver on Wednesday, the 4th. As an added bonus, Kristi came with us. We were home for maybe 45 minutes before we too off again, this time for the foothills so we could get a view of the entire city to watch the fireworks. This was a good arrangement since Adrianna is a little scared of fireworks and I think the loud noises would have scared her. So we were able to enjoy the pretty fireworks without all the booms and crackles.

Kristi was able to stay until this morning. Adrianna is crazy about her “Aunt Kisti” and was asking, “Where’d Aunt Kisti go?” after she left. She also mentioned “Baby Chayee” a few times as well.

The remainder of our weekend is going to be spent recovering from our vacation.

  1. Awww, she looks so sweet with him! That picture of her on the blanket caught my eye though…I think I have pictures of my son from like 7 years ago on a blanket JUST like that! 🙂

  2. funny story, i was watching that video and Layla wanted on my lap, she then laughed every time she heard you guys laughing in the video, and when Charlie would scream, she would imitate the screaming with her own! hehe.

  3. That’s so sweet! I love how babies and toddlers are fascinated by other babies and toddlers. Or videos/pictures of themselves. Adrianna is always begging to watch “Rawa” on the computer, meaning she wants to watch herself. Over and over again.

I cannot wait to see Layla and Aidan this weekend! They are totally in the fun baby stage now.

  4. I looked at all the pictures you put on picasa of your Kansas trip. All nice pictures. I like the ones with everyone together and with Daves parents too.
