Got to vote in my first election as an Independent. Felt pretty good! Thank you, Colorado, for making this an option for the roughly 37% of registered and active voters that previously did not have a voice in the primaries.
How it works in Colorado is that you receive ballots for both the Republican and Democrat primaries. BUT, you are only allowed to fill in and return one. (If you try to return both, both of them are tossed out and don’t count.) So Greg and I each decided which one more closely aligned with us this year and filled that one out.
I wish we received one ballot that listed EVERYONE running for each position (still allowing to only choose one person per position) so that we could truly just pick those we want to represent us, regardless of party, since we aren’t straight party voters, but it is still progress to be allowed to participate at all. Maybe someday.
