I have had high blood pressure since at least January 2020, when I discovered it by randomly checking it at one of those blood pressure machines at a recreation center. At first, I hoped it was a fluke, but at later doctor appointments it continued to be high, sometimes as high as 152/100, which is concerning. So at the beginning of August, my cardiologist put me on Metroprolol ER Succinate (25mg) once a day. This should also help my SVT, which is important since I had a longer-than-normal episode of that in June, which lasted 30 minutes instead of 5 minutes like it usually does.
After starting the Metroprolol, the diastolic number began to come down to within normal. And then today, BOTH numbers were great at 116/79. The first time my blood pressure monitor has shown me in the “green” instead of “red” or even “yellow.” So I am feeling greatly encouraged, even though the medicine has the side effect of making me feel tired and ready for a nap most of the day. Which has me drinking more caffeine, which probably is counter-intuitive to trying to lower the high blood pressure, but I just don’t have time for daily naps. 😴
