Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, emails, and words in asking about how our family and my mom is doing. We feel very loved and lucky to have you all in our lives!
Here is an update on my mom that is both happy and hard at the same time:
The happy is that she is recovering so well from the stroke! Her vision has improved, as well as her balance. She can get around on her own now, with the help of her walker. She is mostly feeling well, although she was having some nausea today. It is really encouraging to see such wonderful, outward signs of improvement.
But that brings us to the hard part. Even though she seems to be doing so well, I have to keep reminding myself that the improvement we are seeing is likely just recovery from the stroke. The leukemia hasn’t gone anywhere, as her continued need for platelets (every other day) and red blood transfusions reminds us. She did go see a different doctor for another opinion but at this point it sounds like the only real option left this late in the game is an intense chemo (with a 30 day hospital stay) and perhaps a bone marrow transplant, but neither are a sure thing. She is not sure she wants to go that route, especially since she is much happier at home than she was during her previous hospital stays.
Thank you for your continued prayers for our family. We are so incredibly thankful for all this extra time we’ve been given with our mom and also so glad she is feeling well right now. Every day is a precious gift.
