Gestational Diabetes Test

Why can’t the diabetes glucose test involve a really big sugary and yummy candy bar instead of that nasty drink. Yuck.

14 hours of fasting so far and 3 more to go before I’m done. So hungry!!

I had to be tested earlier than normal since I am high risk for it. We also went straight to the 3 hour test (where I get blood drawn every hour for 3 hours) and skipped the preliminary test since I always test positive. It requires fasting for 12 hours prior so by the time all the testing was done, it had been 18 hours since I’d eaten. I was SO hungry! And then I got to get a RhoGam shot afterward. (Which I like to blame on Greg since he has O+ blood.) I am pretty tired of getting poked with needles today!

Oh, and the tech who drew my blood took one look at my birthmark and asked, “Will this irritate your rashes?” *sigh*

Well, the glucose results are in…all 3 tests were high. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement, even if I am not surprised.

Hello, finger pricks after every meal and hello strict diet.

Goodbye delicious carbs, sweets and all the foods I love so much. I’ll miss you!

Meeting with a dietitian and an endocrinologist next week.
