May 2020

The month of May found us still practicing “social distancing” at home, leaving only for grocery pickups or an occasional appointment that couldn’t be done remotely.

Remote classes and/or watching documentaries

The girls doing some baking. Cupcakes and later, coffeecake.

We regularly take family walks. Sometimes the girls ride their bikes. We are thankful for this nice trail behind our neighborhood.

Another activity that went remote is the girls’ gymnastics class.

Bree and I played an online game of Yahtzee with Cindy, Kendall, Layla, and Aidan.

We planted some flowers and strawberries. Then we had to move them to protect them from a hail storm.

Played a lot of Animal Crossings: New Horizons. One huge bonus to the game is all the reading opportunities it presents! A fun way to practice for both the girls.

Surprised the girls with icees delivered to our house from Kona Ice.

The girls introducing Greg to the game they made, called “On Top of the Bushies.” Bree is very proud of it and all the pieces they made.

We received another surprise package in the mail – a unicorn sprinkler! I set it up and put it in the yard so that it was spraying water the when they first saw it. The girls are quite thrilled with it.

We played lots of Settlers of Catan. Adrianna wins most of the time!

Adrianna’s first venture in the car, away from home, in two months! Only to the orthodontist though, nothing exciting. Love her dachshund mask!

Appointments are so different now. Parents are not allowed to go in, patients cannot enter until their appointment time. One door to go in, another to go out (so you don’t pass closely to others.) Masks required. Temperature taken and a health questionnaire.

Love listening to Greg play his guitar.

Drawing birds

Playing King Domino outside. Also taught the little girls how to play Skip Bo.

The cutest baby bunny hangs out in our backyard. I first discovered it when I went to move a trash can and accidentally set it on top of the baby bunny that was hiding underneath! It started squealing and I was looking around, wondering what in the world that sound could be? Then I saw a momma bunny, concerned, running in my direction and my brain kicked into gear and I realized what was going on. The bunny was fine, as you can see.

Family Zoom call

Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit (I won!) Greg is getting tired of his long hair, but since we can’t visit the barber…

Greg built a cage to go around the top of our strawberry planter to help keep the critters out!

Garfield jammies – that once belonged to their mom when she was little!

Pretty sad when the President of the United States / White House tweets something that contains threats of violence against fellow citizens – so much so that Twitter can’t show it because it goes against their rules. As if the many lies that come from the same Twitter account weren’t enough of a travesty and dragging down of our country and its once-moral standing in our world.

From SpaceFlightNow.com: SpaceX’s first human-rated Crew Dragon spacecraft took off Saturday from historic launch pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, launching NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken on the first piloted orbital space mission from a U.S. spaceport in nearly a decade.

Also this month, one of our libraries emailed that they are opening for curbside pickup on holds! Within minutes, I’d already added a bunch of things to our hold list. Oh, how we’ve missed our local libraries! Thank goodness we could still download eBooks and eAudiobooks over the past couple of months though. #homeschoolLife
