Four Teeth

Adrianna had to have four teeth pulled at the dentist’s office yesterday. Permanent teeth. Unfortunately, she inherited her mother’s small mouth with not enough space for all the permanent teeth. She got braces put on her top teeth on January 3rd (this is phase two of braces) and her teeth need some more room in order to move into place properly.

I had to get four teeth pulled as a teen for the same reason. Even so, it was really hard to take Adrianna to that appointment. I was feeling so much anxiety over it that I considered canceling last-minute, but Adrianna was brave and resigned to it, which helped my nerves quite a bit.

Luckily, we have a great dentist and he put my mind at ease, assuring me that they are easy to extract at this age since the roots are still growing and haven’t fully sunk in. He explained the process to both of us and they were able to pull all four relatively quickly, rather than splitting it into two separate appointments like we’d assumed would happen. (Which was great so that we didn’t have to go through the anxiety all over again!) I gladly paid for Adrianna to receive nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which helped her stress, I think. She was so sweet and silly while she had it, and she gripped my hand during most of the extraction procedure.

She’s having a bit of pain yet today and has to take it easy with what she eats for a few more days, but I am glad to have that behind us.
