Cate at 16.5 months

Cate is growing by leaps and bounds. She is definitely a busy, busy girl. Her favorite thing to do is toddle around the house, pulling everything she can reach out of drawers and baskets and onto the floor. She doesn’t like it when we fence off certain areas of the house; she wants free reign! She is also quick at ascending up the stairs, though she hasn’t learned how to come back down yet.

Cate loves to repeat words back to us. Her vocabulary is already growing pretty quickly and she is proud to say the words she knows.

  • More (both signing and verbally, as “mah”)
  • Belly (“beh-bee”)
  • Bellybutton (“beh-bee”)
  • Eyes
  • Ears
  • Nose (“nah”)
  • Momma
  • Daddy
  • Shoes
  • No (Her new favorite word!)
  • Night-Night (“nie-nie”)
  • Bottle (“baw-buh”)
  • Book (“buh”)

She is very much loved and doted on by Adrianna and very much picked on by Bree. But Cate antagonizes Bree quite often in return. She is a little instigator, especially when it comes to Bree!

Though she is very busy and loves to make messes, she is also an easy baby. Extremely easy-going, always cheerful, cuddly, and sweet. She eats almost anything placed before her, with the exception of fried eggs. But on the flip side, she also will put ANYthing she finds on the floor into her mouth as well. This has included small rings, coins, legos, rocks, Polly accessories, or old food that has fallen to the floor. I am always fishing something out of her mouth.

Having big sisters with lots of little toys doesn’t help matters much, no matter how hard we try to keep the floor picked up. I had a scary moment a couple of months ago when she was gagging on a small ring that had made its way to the very back of her mouth. Thankfully, I was able to reach it with my fingers and after a few attempts, fished it out of her mouth. I was so frightened by the experience and so very thankful I was able to get it out without pushing it further back.

She is the only one of our girls who has readily taken a paci. Though she likes having it during the day, she mostly has it only during nap time and at bedtime. Although I have found that if she does having it during the day, she puts less things in her mouth because she has her paci to suck on instead.

Cate is our joyful, smiley, sunshine.
