Greg and I got to go see Guster, Ben Folds Five and the Barenaked Ladies in concert at Red Rocks. It was the perfect Colorado evening for an outdoor concert and Red Rocks is such an amazing venue to see live music. Guster and Ben Folds Five are two bands I really enjoy, so I was especially excited to see them live for the first time even though they’ve been around for many years. Greg and I got to see the Barenaked Ladies maybe 10ish years ago at Fiddlers Green in Denver and they were great performers so I was happy to see them perform again too.
Guster
I enjoy this band quite a lot. I can’t believe I only discovered them a few years ago (thanks Pandora) even though they’ve been around for much longer than that. Now they get a lot of playtime on my iPhone. They were very good live.
Ben Folds Five
I am so glad Ben Folds Five did my favorite song, which is Army. Ben Folds is an amazing musician. This is another band that makes a regular appearance on my iPhone playlist.
Barenaked Ladies
They weren’t quite as into it as they were 10 years ago. Although maybe it is just that their audience has also gotten older with them. When we saw them the first time, boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese were thrown onto the stage from the audience during If I had a Million Dollars where it mentions eating Kraft Dinner. And in the song, Pinch Me, where they say, “I could hide out under there…I just made you say ‘underwear?'” only one lone bra was thrown up on stage whereas then years before there was a lot more underwear thrown up on stage during that line. Just an observation…
(BTW, the “under where / underwear” joke is one of Adrianna’s current favorites right now. Even though she’d never heard the song before. It is so funny how those popular jokes when we were kids continue to get recycled.)
I am so thankful my mom was able to watch all three girls for us so Greg and I could have such a enjoyable night out.
