Works For Me Wednesday – Leftover Sheetrock/Drywall Panel
I am not sure if this counts as a Works For Me Wednesday post, but it is a fun idea on what to do with a leftover sheetrock/drywall panel, so I guess it can count.
This idea actually comes from my childhood. While finishing part of our basement, my dad found himself with a leftover sheetrock panel. It wasn’t quite full size, but it was pretty close.
Instead of just throwing it out or putting it in the shed to save for another project, he set it up horizontally on two saw horses and let us kids draw on and play with it. He separated it out into four equal sections; one corner for each of us kids. Oh, the hours of fun we had. We had Micro Machine cars (like Hot Wheels, but smaller) and we spent lots of time drawing out a town complete with roads and parking lots, etc, on each of our respective corners. We used colored pencils and colored in grassy areas and really let our creativity show. We also used some Micro Machine buildings we had and incorporated those into our towns, so that it was 3D. Then, once we had the town completed, we could “drive” our cars all over the sheetrock. It was one of the best toys we had.
What a great idea to encourage cooperation, map skills and creativity. I remember you mentioning this (on your other blog, I think) and how 2 of your siblings would never come visit on your side of the town. Funny!
That is such a great idea! How creative! I hope I remember it when our kids are old enough to enjoy such an idea. 🙂
When Greg’s youth pastor (Kevin) planned the youth room in our (then) new building, he put two full sheets of drywall up on a couple of walls and provided kids with markers and let them write names and comments to personalize their room. When they got full, we put up new ones. It was pretty cool. It would have been even cooler if they had limited their writing to the sheetrock.
nettie, I believe it was actually AMBER that would not visit her younger siblings side of town! hehe
Thanks Mom – Make me look like the bad guy. 🙂
What a cool idea!
