Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Last night we rented Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The remake with Johnny Depp. Midway through, right before the children were to enter the factory, we realized that it was just plain wrong to be watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory without being able to consume any chocolate ourselves, so Greg and Shad ran to the store to buy us some.
The boys came back with lots of chocolate, more than we could ever consume in one evening without making ourselves sick. But we were happy. We started up the movie again with our chocolate and milk.
It was a great movie. Johnny Depp is such a great actor anyways and is great at playing zany characters. The Oompa-Loompas were crazy and were all played by one guy so they all looked exactly alike. I was glad that they still sang songs about the spoiled kids. The songs were updated and quite different. One of them sounded like it had Abba influences while another was definitely drawing off of Queen.
The movie had a few differences from the original movie with Gene Wilder, but overall I was pleased. Even Sauroman made an appearance. Well, at least Christopher Lee did. He was still dressed all in white: a dentist rather than a wizard though. He played Willy Wonka’s dad.
Yeah, we saw that movie…but as good an actor as Johnny Depp is, you just can’t top Gene Wilder!
