Bittersweet Mother’s Day

I think this picture really captures our bittersweet Mother’s Day this year. Today is my mom’s first Mother’s Day in heaven and I still am having a hard time believing she is really gone. Many tears. But also very thankful to be called mom by these three little girls.

Having the girls with me really helped. Adrianna was somber at first since she is older and understands more, but the call of play eventually helped her cheer up. It is hard for me not to smile when they are climbing trees nearby and filled with laughter and fun. And Bree is just so blunt and matter of fact about things. She was very interested in where Nanna was buried under the ground and then kept pointing it out to Cate. And then Cate has asked me almost every day, “Nanna is dead? Awww. Nanna is your mom?” I have noticed that Cate and Bree now have some of their characters die in their play as they process it in their own way.
