Surgeon Consult

So I recently had an appointment with a surgeon (initial consult to repair two umbilical hernias) and he acted almost appalled that I had my children with me and that I was going to bring them into the room for the interview and brief exam. He even asked if I could leave them in the waiting room. Seriously, leave my busy 21-month old in the waiting room? Um, NO! I have been bringing my kids with me to various appointments for 6+ years and never had such a reaction. I am so upset about it that I am wondering if I should try another surgeon? Although the one I had for this same type of surgery 5 years ago also wasn’t very personable, so I am wondering if it is just a surgeon thing?

After querying my Facebook friends who convinced me to get a 2nd opinion, I got a 2nd opinion today. So glad I did. I like this doctor SOOOO much better. He spent longer on the exam and talked to me for a long time in detail about two different surgery options and everything to expect, both as to the procedure itself and the recovery. So happy! Canceled my surgery appt. with the first doctor as soon as I got home. When the receptionist asked why, I told her exactly why (nicely). But also told her that I did appreciate talking to HER, just not the surgeon #1.
