Getting Involved

Now that Greg and I have found a church in our nearby area, we have been excited to get involved. (Our other church was too far away for us to get actively involved, which is part of the reason we decided to look for another one nearer to home.)

Greg has recently joined the worship team as their bass guitarist. He has been enjoying being involved with the music. I would like to join as well, as they are in need of altos, but someone would need to watch Adrianna during the practices, so I guess only one of us can be involved in the worship team at a time.

Today I joined MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers). It is comprised of moms from all over this general area and just happens to meet at our church. I really think I am going to enjoy it. Since there are 50+ women who attend, they split us up into smaller groups (that we will stay in for the year) so we can get to know some of the people a little better. Each group is comprised of a discussion group leader, an assistant, and a mentor mom who is there to provide experience and support. The ladies in my group are great. We all range in age from mid-20’s to mid-30’s, except for our mentor mom who is a sweet Grandmotherly lady. A couple of the girls attend our church, but most of the others attend other area churches.

Today was just a get-to-know everyone and to learn a little about what MOPS is all about. We had breakfast, those of us who were new to MOPS got door prizes, and then our speaker, which happened to be our pastor, came in and gave a short message. Each group then split off into other rooms for discussion time.

Kids 6 months and up get to go to “Moppets.” Adrianna had such a good time there that she didn’t want to leave. I had to pick her up and carry her out.

MOPS meets twice a month. I am already looking forward to the next meeting. My group has also setup a playdate at a park for next Tuesday morning and is planning a family pot-luck bbq for later in the month.

I was also recently invited to a scrapbooking night at the church next Tuesday evening. This will also be a bi-weekly event and I am thrilled about it. Hooray for getting some scrapbooking done and getting an evening to myself, along with hopefully getting to know some more women at our church a little better.

Thats great your getting together with other moms. And that sounds so cute, Moppets! When all you kids and me and dad live on the same block, then you can join the worship team with Greg cause then you will have plenty of people to watch Adrianna 🙂

Hey, i will have to come up for one of those scrapbook parties 🙂 I’ve kinda wanted to start one at my church, but haven’t really had the time. That’s great that you found a group you enjoy, and that Adrianna has more kids to play with.
