We drove up to Laramie, Wyoming for the Obama rally yesterday. It was held at the University of Wyoming campus, so we stayed at Cindy’s house and then just walked the 10 blocks to the rally. The “we” being myself, Greg, Adrianna, Mom, Karen, Cindy, and Kendall. We were even escorted to the front of the line because we had Adrianna in tow and they didn’t want little children waiting out in the cold, because the line to get in was quite long.<\/p>\n

This was my first time attending a big political thing of this nature. I know that I attended a dinner and met a state senator in Wyoming when I was in high school (Mike Enzi), but it was not this large of an event.<\/p>\n

Both Greg and I are registered Republicans, but neither of us are really excited about the Republican party’s likely candidate. I really like some of what Obama does stand for according to the research I have done and what I have heard (environmental issues, energy, health care, college grants for students in exchange for community service, against taking money from lobbyists) and he definitely is a charismatic speaker. I am not sure how I feel about the war issue. I think like most of America, I am ready for it to be done and it scares me to think about the billions (trillions?) of dollars that have been spent on it.<\/p>\n

But on the other hand there are two issues that are important to me that I disagree with him on: abortion and embryonic <\/em>stem cell research. I think I am going to have to do some more searching and praying on this one, because I just am not too crazy about McCain. I haven’t decided for sure who I am going to vote for. Well, I HAVE decided that if it were between McCain and Clinton that I would vote for McCain. I just don’t trust Hilary farther than I could toss her. So I am really hoping that Obama gets the Democratic nomination because even though my decision of who I will vote for will be tougher, I would just prefer either of them as president over Clinton.<\/p>\n

Overall though, I believe I am becoming more moderate as I get older. In a good way (I think).<\/p>\n

We had a good time and I am glad we went. Adrianna did really good too, even though we were there for several hours and it went past her bedtime. I think it was important that she went (she also goes with us when we vote) because I want to instill in her pride for her country, our freedom to vote, and the knowledge that her voice is important to the democratic process.<\/p>\n
