Yesterday, I was humming the tune of Sixteen Going on Seventeen<\/em>, not even really aware that I was doing it. Adrianna piped up and asked me, “Do we have The Sound of Music<\/em> movie?” I was completely amazed that she recognized the song from my humming and placed what movie it belonged to after only seeing a portion of it, one time, over our Christmas vacation.<\/p>\n

We do own the movie, so we got it out and we have been watching pieces of it, as a family, for the past couple of evenings. The reason we are only watching small portions at a time is due to Adrianna’s short attention span and early bedtime, but we are all enjoying it very much.<\/p>\n

I remember we would watch The Sound of Music<\/em> whenever it came on tv when I was growing up. When we finally bought the DVD, I was pleasantly surprised by some extra scenes that are cut out of the tv version.<\/p>\n

It is different watching the movie as an adult too; as a child, I think a lot of the subleties of feelings, looks, and comments between the Baroness and Maria or the Captain and Maria go right over your head. Some of the Austria\/Germany conflict and comments as well, like the Captain’s display of the Austrian flag or singing Edelweiss<\/em> as an outspoken love and farewell to the country he loves, even if it isn’t Austria’s real anthem.<\/p>\n

The differences in watching The Sound of Music<\/em> as a child and again as an adult weren’t as much of a surprise as Annie<\/em> was though. No, that was more of a shock and almost as if it were an entirely different movie than what I remembered. Carol Burnett sure plays an amazing and naughty Mrs. Hannigan! Hmmm, I may have to add that one to our Netflix list. Adrianna seems to like musicals, especially when there are children, and it has been awhile since I have seen it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
