Grace Chorale

The Grace Chorale was in our area today so we drove out to see them perform. I only got misty-eyed a couple times throughout the performance as I remembered all my fun times in the chorale 8+ years ago. They did do two songs that we did during my years in Chorale, and it was amazing to me how well I could remember the lyrics as well as the alto portions of the songs that I haven’t heard for years.

And they all looked SO young! Greg mentioned to me that even students that started after we left have come and gone from college already. Yes, I feel a little bit old tonight. But we did see some familiar faces. I got to see Tara, who started attending Grace towards the end of my college career (she works in admissions now) and Dr. Z is still the conductor and Karen (the pianist) and her husband were there too, so I was very happy to see them again.

Many of my wonderful memories from college involved my time in Chorale or The Ambassadors, and most of my friends were involved with one or both of those musical groups. As I watched the chorale sing tonight, flashes of memories would pass through my mind. It was weird; I was totally paying attention to the concert, but all I could hear were the voices of all MY friends singing from back then.

I know how you feel. I loved singing in our college choir! We went back to the “Gala” and watched mostly students we didn’t know perform. I teared up a lot, and missed OUR choir, the people I got to know and performed with. A big part of me also wanted to climb up on the risers and sing the familiar songs with them! It is always fun to go back, but I do miss it. Most of the people I went school with are gone as well.
