More on Feeding the Dogs

If you want someone who eats whatever you put in front of him, get a dog. Toddlers, however, are a completely different story.

Our dogs have never had it so good in regards to their mealtime, complements of Adrianna. Not only do they get many yummy tablescraps from Adrianna’s meals that are tossed onto the floor every day, but their food dish simply cannot be empty. Ever. Adrianna simply finds an empty dog dish completely unacceptable.

I have blogged about this before, and it still rings true. As soon as she spies an empty dish, she will drop everything else (or squirm to get out of my arms if I am carrying her) and go straight for the dish. She’ll then pick it up and walk over to the cupboard where we store the food and start babbling away until I come over and fill the dish with dog food. She then carefully carries it over to the other side of the kitchen and sets it down. She hasn’t ever spilled even one little kibble during the carryover. Once the food dish is set down, we have learned that we need to make sure she doesn’t pick it back up, or she will then proceed to dump its contents on the ground. Every time.

Thankfully, the dogs aren’t picky and wholeheartedly clean up the mess. Why do we even bother with a dog bowl?
